Devlog Devlog #1: Introduction to Drift

Drift is alive! I'm excited to share what I've been working on these past few months.

Alone in a vast asteroid field, can you make it home?

Drift began as a tech test in early 2020 after a long stretch of playing open world survival crafting games and space simulators. I loved the sense of scale being in first-person in space but most OWSC games in space took place on a planet or a large station - while most space simulators take place in your ship. I wanted both and started prototyping the resource collection system then.

I was unfortunately distracted by work, family life and other ideas for two years - but recently made the personal decision to pursue game development - and find the right game to see through. I initially worked on another project but in June 2022, I picked up the old tech demo, rebuilt it with what I’ve learned in the last two years and hit the ground running.

I’m now a point where I feel this game is it - the scope, content requirements, level of fun are exactly what I’ve been looking for in a game to take to release. Next week we’ll start to look at what I’ve accomplished on so far.
